“How about we changes the rules a little…”

I once put forth a theory and while it is still correct I have to amend it a little. Not sweating the pretty girl is important to any self respecting man (or vice versa even). The thing that I did not mention was that you should not avoid the pretty girl. I realized I had to amend this after a conversation with some friends. We were discussing how legends get built around people…and I don’t mean William Wallace. I mean you or people you know vs. the perception of others. I have a legend and so do most of the people I know. Some of these I found out about after we were friends some I knew beforehand. The thing about legends is they are constructs of the imagination of people who don’t know the individual in question. Like I know a girl who was said to be the subject of the Roots song “The Hypnotic”. As for myself in High School I found out there was a rumor that I only dated Puerto Rican girls…despite the fact that I only ever really knew one. The thing about legends is that they will make people reluctant to even approach someone. In these cases a woman who has become a legend may not even get approached by guys who are intimidated with the legend. Ever see a a woman and then see her man and say “How the hell did he end up with her?” He asked. While the rest of you were assuming that she must have a man or just to scared to actually initiate a conversation this guy said to hell with it and now he’s looking like the man with a legend on his arm. Now just remember not “sweating” the pretty girl doesn’t mean ignore her all together. Just as not ignoring her does not mean become her personal valet in hopes that she might acknowledge that you actually are a man…or used to be. Fortune favors the bold. The important thing to remember is that this is just another person. They may be a prize but so are you. You may be better remembering that in another order…you are a prize and so are they. The important thing is to not undervalue yourself. Like I say when people call me cocky…”If I don’t love me than who will?” So rememer: no sweating, do approach, be the prize. Simple math…but then again I was always better in English and History.
