What Ray wants, Ray gets.

“A linebacker’s job is to knock out running backs, to knock out receivers, to chase the football.”
Ray Lewis
Many people got very tense in the last couple of weeks when Ray Lewis made comments about him and the Ravens. People thought it was another “star” athelete wanting what he wanted, when he wanted it. It was, the difference here is most Ravens fans wanted the same thing. Set Ray Lewis loose. Free him up to cause the havoc that only he can cause. Don’t let him get blocked. Don’t make him have to fight off guys to get where he needs to go. Give him a line that will take that cushion away from the other team. With all luck this is what has happened this weekend. Ray wanted Haloti Ngata and he got him. More to the point we got him. Now don’t get me wrong, I was interested when they tried the 3-4 and when they wanted to do a variation on the 46. The thing is when Siragusa, Adams (Big and Big, Inc.) and Lewis formed the middle triangle the ravens allowed a record low 156 points and didn’t give up a hundred yards to a rusher in 52 games. While I love Kelly Gregg and his tenacity…we need some big people to plug those holes. The 3-4 meant that teams started coming up with blocking schemes to keep Ray out of plays. The worst part of this is not cause he’s strong or fast…it’s because he’s smart. It’s because when the ball is hiked Ray is on the way to where the play is going to end up. Nine times out of ten he was telling his linebackers that’s where the play was going to be. He knows the other team. He knows what they do. Let him stop them. I am just a fan. I do sit in front of my T.V. and criticize Billick. The thing is most of the time I’m right. I have been saying for the last few years that they have to make sure Ray is free. When he roamed free, we set defensive records. Think or Ray as a Lion. When he’s blocked he’s a in the zoo…he could still kill you, but is spirit isn’t the same. When he goes unblocked he is dangerous. A creature who’s instincts take over and make him a machine, an irresistable force. What he needs is a defensive line that is an immovable object. Perhaps Ngata and Trevor Pryce can help the line become that again.
Now, I’m going into armchair G. M. mode:
Why the hell did you guys pick up Mike Anderson? He’s 31 for godsakes and he’s not the fastest guy around. I mean come on.
Why the Hell did you guys let Will Demps go? I could hit you.
Find a Nickel back that’s not older than my father. The only real good one you’ve had was Deion and he still wasn’t what he used to be.
Sit Clarence Moore down and let Randy Hymes in.
I understand that Chester Taylor probably wanted more than you guys were ready to pay…I understand…it still hurts though.
Give Jamal 20+ carries he gets stronger as the game goes on. None of that 10 carries a game crap from last year.
Do whatever it takes to sign Steve McNair, he will be the leader we have needed on offense. He gave Mason all the yards he got when he was killing even in losing seasons. They can both teach Clayton and I don’t even have to mention Todd *cough* betterthanShockey *cough* Heap. B.T.W. McNair can actually play the position of QB…nice bonus huh?
Flow between the 4 - 3 and the 46, leave the 3-4 alone it does not work to our strengths.
For Godsake stop running Cover 2…you have 3 of the best DB’ in the league let Rolle and Mcalister play man.
