Ya’ll said that was Good.

None for me thanks.

I have opinions of my own — strong opinions — but I don’t always agree with them.
George Bush (1924 - )

I’ve known most of my life that I’m an odd duck. I know that I will never be mainstrem. I’m that type of man that being teased about things as a child didn’t make me change them, it made me run with them and dare people to criticize me about it. Especially since I’m grown and know how much I can bench press now.

Here are some things that alot of people dig that I don’t.

and Burn for all I care
Crash
I found no redemption in this movie. As a matter of fact the only story in it that I liked was the Latino dudes arc. The rest of it I could chuck. Especially cause of what happened to Thandie Newton’s character. The brother never really got redemption as a character. He really just got out on another brother and bucked on the cops. Also I hated the rascist ass cop being the hero. To hell with you sir!!! The realest part was the so-called “good” cop showing how scared he really was inside. Movies like this, I feel, never teach a lesson. They just let white people think they finally hit upon the core of racisim.

Sorry Mr. Blow.
Basketball
Yeah that’s right a black man that don’t like basketball. The world is coming to an end. For the record. I have always had big feet that I would dribble on by mistake. I grew up in the hood were there wasn’t really time to learn cause everyone thought they were Jordan and played cut-throat. I went to public schools where most Gym classes consisted of basketball everyday. I just don’t dig it. I’m not graceful in a basketball way. I always describe myself as a guy who can make some outside shots, but mostly I should sit on the bench until you want someone fouled. That’s not to say I never, ever play. I’d prefer not to and I know I’m not good. Give me football. Strength and Intelligence. I’m not the fastest or the strongest, but I prefer a sport where I can outsmart someone and if all else fails force them to drag me down. Wait for it…………..I’d even take floor hockey over basketball. I’d rather watch the X-games than the final four. Ya’ll gonna take my black card aren’t ya’ll?

Sweety fru fru drink
Sweet Drinks
There is nothing I dislike more than a whole bunch of sweet fru fru drinks. Honestly when you see some jerk that’s drunk out of their mind half the time they were throwing back some sweet mixed drink. A bartender also put me down with the fact that the sugar in those drinks adds on to hangovers. Give me some beer and a some Patron and I’m cool. I like a drink that as soon as the smell hits your nose you know if you’ve had enough. I used to make exceptions for an Amaretto Sour, but I haven’t had one in years and don’t think I will again.

Bend that shiite
Flat Brimmed Baseball Hats
I didn’t really notice when this started. I really noticed when stores started to keep their hats all pristine and…flat. My man actually pissed off some salesmen cause he was trying joints on and kept bending them. I’m sorry, but I’m from the Jazzy Jeff Starter hat era. I know ya’ll remember that commercial. Bend the hat, slam the hat, flip the hat…all that stuff. I don’t want to wear a hat until I’ve got the brim right. Until it’s curve connects with the start of my face in that right way. This new flat brimmed chachky just ain’t for me. It reminds me of sticking my hat on my lil’ cousins head.

  1. re Crash
Hey hey hey, the white man being the one to cut Thandie Newton out of the car was supposed to be irony. I actually got something from that–he realized that he had really hurt her; And he needed to know that.
But the part where all the people in the back of the van got set free–that was weird. I couldn’t quite buy that part.
My favorite part of the movie was when the people on the set of the tv show were trying to get the kid to “Talk more Black”. I was mad at that. I am sick and tired of people acting like there’s a White way to talk and a Black way to talk, and if I know a four syllable word and actually use it in a sentence I’m “white”.

  2. oh, one more thing, those baseball caps really are silly. I remember a time when a guy would look like a poindexter if his brim was flat. How did that become cool?

re: Crash, they showed some things, but they didn’t explore the institutional nature of racism. In regards to the hats…I wish this would just vanish and we could go back to the way it was…on the Crash tip again, I guess now I wear my hat like a white boy.

  3. Yeah I finally saw Crash this weekend as well. It was garbagage - so artificial and heavy-handed.

It reminded me of Grand Canyon which I hated as a teenager. My friend’s parents tried to tell me I was wrong back then for not liking it because I didn’t get the issues or the message. When a movie beats you over the head with its message for 2 hours it’s hard to not get the message. But the message is bullshit. There’s no truth in these oscar-baiting attempts by hollywood do-gooders.

It’s more of the let’s feel bad for 2 hours and then feel good about life again movement and I can’t stand it.

  4. I hate the movie Crash. It was terrible from beginning to end. Check out this. Best thing I have seen written on that piece of trash movie.

No sweet drinks? We’re gonna have to part ways there….

That analysis is exactly what I mean. It just kind of says “hey no one is perfect, let’s just try to get along”. It doesn’t really take anything or make an active stride.

  6. I was completely with you till you hit the sweet drinks…I really like a good Sloe Gin Fizz or a Long Island Iced tea, both of which I have not had in a couple of years. Hopping over that I am not a cap kinda girl (play’s havoc with the ‘do, KWIM!?) ;-p

I need the warning that a strong straight drink gives you. I don’t want to end up with regrets of the night before.

I ask this all the time!

  8. Did you see the embarrassment of a game last night? Brett Farve was waaaaaay off his game and Cinti kicked ass fo’ real! It was amazing!

I like street ball. The b-ball games at West 4 St. park in the Village were great as were the Jamaica Park games. I miss the old Knicks (back in the Ewing days - Charlie Ward, Allan Houston…), I admire Iverson, but really don’t care about any of the other pros. I hate Jordan - hate him!

I enjoyed Crash - my favorite - the little girl protecting her father from the shot.

I drink Bombay and tonic with mucho lime. Sweet drinks are the road to hangover land.

The Packers were smashed- the gunslinger returns!
That story arc was the only one in the movie I liked.

  9. Are you on the stuff? Get off the stuff, man. How can you pick ANYTHING over the Final Four?

I don’t know if I can keep coming here. You have really made dissapointed me, man. I’m really dissapointed.

  10. We need to go out Patron drinking.

I saw on the View today that one frozen margarita, or long island, or martini is the equiv of eating a bucket of chicken, 4 donuts or plate of onion rings. Yuck.

  11. lol.. You’re a funny dude, but I feel you though. Even though I play basketball to reduce my beer gut, I can love it or leave it. I agree wholehearted about your “Crash” rant, sweet drinks make me vomit, and flat rimmed hats are for inbred no-talents like Cam’ron.

  12. flat hats. finally someone speaks out. man, you look like a two year old wearin your dad’s hat. i like my brim bent.

crash. some scenes worth watching. i still cant believe it won best pic. damn. white folks love to feel guilty….for 90 minutes.

    Comment by Vik — September 1, 2006 @ 6:03 pm

  13. and black folks love to feel victimized. … no? I really don’t know what to make of it. Personally I like to approach people as people, but then again, it doesn’t help IGNORING a fact, when it’s there, right? i mean, especially here in America there IS a racial division and problem that DOES exist and many times makes me wonder: do they WANT to get over it? or NOT? or what has to happen? people are people man. In Germany it’s different. There you just CANT be racist in no way. The fucking holocaust is hovering above you like a toxic cloud. There ARE racists, still, don’t get me wrong and there aRE issues with immigrants but there will always be immigrant issues, in every country. The African American/Caucasian American / Native American / Asian American /Latin American issues are different. Interesting, yeah yeah. I loved the most how this little girl got this invisible cloak. that was a great scene man. other than that. yeah there are other movies.
i don’t really see how white people should feel guilty though for 90 min.

oh ok whatever. it s not like it’s important what i don’t get.

hey Amadeo: after you said it i started SEEING those unbent caps and dude, they look ridiculously stupid! seriously.

another thing i can’t stand either was. hum, what was it. i thought about writing that to you yesterday. , oh nevermind. i ll know it as soon as i press the button gto send this comment. lol
    have a wonderful day
