  1. i watched it. i also have video and the transcript on my blog :)

he said what he needed to say. i was proud of him. even though he didn’t want to be known as the “black candidate” he was anyway without saying a word. this just puts it out there and it made him put it out.

however this will not put to rest the issue with rev. wright. frankly i feel rev. wright is correct. i was watching cnn last night and the white folk were like ” why are black folk so angry”. if you’re not black, never been black or not even attempting to be black, you can’t understand the fear, anger, disenfranchisement we feel as a people.

  2. I watched the speech live at work yesterday. It was amazing. I find him nothing short of amazing in general. Several fence-riders I know who didn’t like/trust him because he avoided talking about race-related issues now have nothing to say.

Judging from the bloggers on CNN, I think the Hillary die-hards will see what they want to see in the speech.

I’m sad that the delegate fight has gone on so long cause it is really digging into the Democrat’s advantage.

  4. He’s our next president. As kofi said, “amazing”. He’s clear and straight with his listeners. I thought it was great.

  5. The man is an “amazing” orator, but what makes him so captivating is that he speaks with such sincerity, which is uncommon with politicians. His speech was non-partisan, and rang with truth in his conviction to help this country heal itself of the bitterness and resentment caused by slavery, it’s “original sin”. Still, as stated by Kofi, the Hillary die-hards will search over it with a fine-toothed comb to find flaws and errors to exploit in the speech…which is a shameful reflection of the state of the politics in this country.

  7. I think Obama hit it right on the nose with his speech. By condemning the opinions of his pastor but not condemning his pastor as an individual showed real character and true moral fiber. I truly believe if it was Hillary or McCain on that stage they would have totally lost their backbone and gave in, disengaging from their pastor 100%. In addition, by throwing down all his cards and speaking openly about race and inequality really impressed me further. But, I think it was something that had to be done or else his candidacy would have been pretty much over.

I do think though you need to read or hear the whole speech in its entirety to get the full grasp of his speech. Taking just quotes from the 40 min sermon would certainly take the meaning behind the whole speech out of context and would be misguided.

I truly hope his speech makes people think about the real issues in this country and look into themselves to find pieces of their own story in his speech. As for me, I find him a breath of fresh air and that his passion for this country has somehow rubbed off on me in strange and unusual ways. Out of the 30 years on this planet, I have never been so politically charged as I am after hearing him speak. And isn’t that what the president is supposed to do?

In a nutshell: Two thumbs up for Barack for having big cajones and doing it with a smile and eloquence.

  8. I will say that he’s turned around my opinion. I’m in the beginning of a Larry Elder book that is suggesting that Democrats love race-mongering because it keeps the black voters voting for them (big scary white republicans–get it?). But Obama’s statements of togetherness and “hey it’s not all bad” are brilliant and on point. Kind of makes me nervous honestly. Ever read “Left Behind”?
